Journal support hinges comprise of two halves, one half having a fixed pin. If you hold the hinge leaf complete with fixed pin in your left hand and the pin is pointing upwards then this would be a left hand hinge. If you hold the hinge leaf complete with fixed pin in your right hand and the pin is pointing upwards, this would be a right hand hinge.
