Why bronze is replacing black outside

Greens that belong outside

Olive, sage and smoky green have become some of the most popular front door colours because they sit so naturally against stone, brick and planting. They feel softer than black and less formal than navy, which suits a country house or a new build that wants to look settled from day one.

Why matt bronze, not black

Matt black can look harsh against warm stone and green paint. Matt bronze keeps the same low-sheen restraint but brings a chocolate-brown warmth that ties the door to the oak frame and the stone around it. It reads as quietly expensive rather than stark.

One finish, every fitting

Knocker, centre knob, letter plate, numbers, bell push and cylinder pull all come from one matt bronze range, so the colour is consistent from piece to piece. Inside, a matching letter tidy and euro escutcheon finish the back of the door.

Getting it right

Knob for pulling

The centre knob is fixed and used to pull the door closed; it does not work the latch, so pair it with a cylinder pull or lever on the lock side.

Check the letter plate

The gravity flap plate is 280 x 80 mm with a 207 x 48 mm opening. Measure your door's middle rail before ordering.

Euro lock? Use a lever

If your door has a euro sashlock, the Algarve lever on a euro plate matches the rest of the set in the same bronze.

Composite door?

For composite or uPVC doors, choose the Hardex bronze Balmoral handles, which are made for multipoint locks.
