Satin chrome on a flush white door
Full-height doors, shadow-gap skirtings and pale oak, with one soft teardrop lever in satin chrome so nothing interrupts the calm.
A house remodelled to be as quiet as possible: doors that run from floor to ceiling, plaster taken right up to the frames, skirtings set back into a shadow gap and wide pale oak boards. In a space this pared back, hardware is one of the few things you see, so it has to be considered. The Goccia lever is a soft teardrop shape in satin chrome, which has a gentle grey sheen rather than a bright shine and doesn't show fingerprints.

Choosing hardware for a minimalist house
A lever on a rose, not a plate
On a flush door, a long backplate breaks up the clean surface. A lever on a small round rose leaves almost all of the door untouched, which is what a minimalist interior is about. The rose only needs to be big enough to cover the latch fixing.
A soft shape in a hard room
Minimalist rooms can feel cold. The Goccia's rounded teardrop profile is comfortable in the hand and softens all the straight lines. If you prefer something stricter, the Shuttle T-bar is a plain round bar in the same finish.
Why satin chrome
Satin chrome is a brushed finish that reads as a soft grey. It sits well with white walls and pale timber, it hides fingerprints, and it matches satin stainless sinks, taps and switches that are common in modern houses.
Planning notes
Sliding doors
On a sliding or pocket door, a 102mm flush pull is recessed into the face so it can slide past the frame. Fit one on each side.
Bathroom privacy
Use a turn and release beside the lever on bathroom doors, with a bathroom lock in the door. Both have small round roses that match the lever.
Heavy doors need stronger hinges
Full-height doors are heavy. Use three heavy-duty 102mm ball-bearing hinges per door so they swing smoothly and don't drop over time.
Stop the lever hitting the wall
With no architrave to absorb knocks, a projecting door stop on the wall or skirting protects the plaster behind an opening door.
