Why a matching reeded set works

A detail borrowed from architecture

Reeding, a run of narrow rounded ribs, has been carved into door cases, fire surrounds and furniture since the Georgian period. Repeating it on every brass fitting ties the door together in the same way a consistent moulding ties a room together.

Why satin brass on navy

Navy frames metal beautifully but feels softer than black. Polished brass can look bright against it; satin brass has a lower, warmer sheen, and the ribs break up reflections so each piece reads as texture rather than glare. It is also more forgiving of fingerprints.

Buying it as a set

Because the knocker, knob, letter plate and bell push come from one range, the colour of the metal matches from piece to piece, which is hard to achieve when mixing makers. Inside, the Gio Reeded lever carries the same ribbed look onto the hall doors.

Getting it right

Line them up

Fix the knocker at roughly eye level and the centre knob at about waist height, both on the central muntin, so the set forms one clean vertical line.

Check the letter plate

The reeded plate is 254 x 101 mm. Measure your existing slot and screw holes first; a plate that is slightly larger will cover old fixings neatly.

Match the lock fittings

A satin brass cylinder pull and round euro escutcheon keep the keyholes in the same finish, rather than leaving a stray chrome cylinder on show.

Changing finish

Matt bronze suits sage, stone and olive doors; satin nickel works on white, grey or pale blue. Each piece is sold separately, so order the whole set in one finish.
