Why warm white and satin brass work
The move to warmer whites
Brilliant whites can feel cold, especially in north-facing rooms. Warm whites with a little yellow or grey in them have become the default for doors and woodwork because they flatter oak floors, natural textiles and daylight, and they make a house feel calm rather than clinical.
Why a slim lever on a rose
A lever on a small round rose keeps the door looking light, and lets the panel mouldings do the talking. The Century lever has a flat, gently tiered blade that sits comfortably in the hand and suits both period and modern rooms.
Rose or backplate?
Choose a rose where the door is new or the paintwork is sound. Where an old door has screw holes or a ghost of a bigger handle, a backplate design such as the Luna covers the marks, so you can upgrade without filling and repainting.
Getting it right
Add the matching rose
On a lever-on-rose door that locks, fit a 53mm keyhole escutcheon below the lever; on a bathroom, use the matching turn and release so the roses line up.
Swap the hinges
Bright steel hinges show on a white door. Satin brass butt hinges finish the look; heavier doors need three.
Knobs for wardrobes
On fitted wardrobes, a pair of Victoria mortice knobs is neater than levers and won't catch on clothes.
Check your latch
Lever on rose handles need a sprung latch; most standard 2.5in or 3in tubular latches work, so measure the old one before you order.
