Valley Forge Pewter Thumb Latches
Suffolk latches or thumb latches can be used instead of traditional door handles for opening and closing a door. In a period style property such as a barn conversion or a country cottage, fitting a rustic thumb latch would add an authentic look to the property. A thumb latch fits directly to the door face and does not require any cutting out to accommodate a mortice lock or mortice latch. A small cut out is made in the door to allow the thumb lever to pass through. When this thumb lever is pressed, it lifts the latch on the opposite side of the door, freeing the door to open.
Pewter Thumb Latches
The Valley Forge collection includes two styles of pewter thumb latch. Both styles would be suitable for fitting inside the home instead of traditional lever style door handles or externally as gate furniture. When used as a gate thumb latch the pull handle with the thumb press is fitted to one side of the gate and the latch to the opposite side. If the door or gate is required to lock then a separate way of locking the door must be found.
