A mortice lock can play a huge part in the security of your home or business. There are many different types and sizes available on the market and at Door Furniture Direct we will do our best to ensure you have all of the information needed to help you make the right decision about which mortice lock you should choose. A 5 lever mortice door lock to BS3621 standard offers more security than a 3 lever mortice door lock because of the increased number of key combinations available and greater protection from picking or drilling the lock together with a stronger locking bolt with a longer throw. 3 lever mortice locks are generally fitted to internal doors.

5 Lever Mortice Locks

A five lever mortice deadlock would typically be fitted to a wooden door that does not have door handles. It would normally be used in conjunction with a nightlatch which allows the door to be open and closed without being deadlocked. Once the mortice key is turned, the door is locked and cannot be opened unless unlocked using the key. Again, a 5 lever deadlock is more secure than a 3 lever deadlock. A 5 lever sashlock offers the same deadbolt feature but also has a latch option and so should be fitted when using door handles with a keyhole in the back plate. When choosing 5 lever mortice locks for external doors you should always check with your insurance providers as they often specify that you fit British Standard mortice locks that meet the requirements of BS3621 with provides higher security.

Bathroom Door Mortice Locks

Internal doors around the home are generally fitted with 3 lever mortice door locks apart from bathrooms and toilets which could use either a bathroom mortice lock or a bathroom deadbolt. A bathroom door mortice lock would be the best option if using bathroom handles with a snib and release function on the back plate, whereas a bathroom deadbolt is a great option when using lever on rose handles or door knobs and a separate turn and release.

3 Lever Mortice Locks

3 lever mortice locks are a practical locking solution commonly used on internal doors where basic security and privacy are required. Installed within the edge of the door, these locks operate using a key to extend a bolt into the door frame, helping to keep rooms securely closed. With a simple and reliable internal mechanism, 3 lever mortice locks are ideal for bedrooms, offices and other interior spaces where convenient everyday locking is needed.

Euro Mortice Locks

Euro mortice locks are designed to work with euro profile cylinders, making them a versatile choice for modern door locking systems. Fitted inside the edge of the door, the lock body controls the latch and bolt while the euro cylinder provides the key operation. Commonly used on uPVC, composite and timber doors, euro mortice locks offer dependable performance and allow the cylinder to be easily replaced without removing the entire lock mechanism.

Mortice Sash Locks

Mortice sash locks combine a latch and a deadbolt within a single lock case, making them ideal for doors fitted with lever handles or door knobs. The latch allows the door to close and open using the handle, while the deadbolt can be operated with a key to securely lock the door when needed. Suitable for both internal and external timber doors, mortice sash locks provide a reliable balance of convenience and security.
